Iowa ASCD Educational Leadership

Submission Guidelines

Adapted from EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP, ASCD

What we are looking for:

•  Features describing solutions to current educational challenges.

•  Opinions on controversial issues, including Letters to the Editor.

•  Local or state program descriptions.

•  Brief (1500-2000 word) manuscripts which are useful to PK- college educators...our readership is diverse, and we strive to make IEL user-friendly to our members.

•  Informal, conversational writing style.

How to submit your manuscript:

•  Send it electronically to Editor Tom Ahart at tahart@ankeny.k12.ia.us

•  Pagination (and date of submission) is helpful.

•  Include postal mailing address so copies of the issue can be sent; usually three copies are mailed to each published author - if you require more, please let Mrs. Baty know by email.

•  Send (electronically) a photo of the author(s) to include in the publication.

•  Deadlines are critical - please do not ask for an exception...that delays receipt of the publication for all our members.

•  The Editor reserves the right to shorten articles as necessary, and to correct/improve grammar, spelling, syntax, etc.

•  Artwork and/or photographs are most welcome. Credits must be submitted (with written reprint permission where necessary), and will be acknowledged.

•  References should be listed according to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association at the end of the article.

•  Articles which are written to sell a product or service are unlikely to be published.

IOWA AUTHORS HAVE TOP PRIORITY IN IEL, BUT OTHERS ARE WELCOME!
